Discover the Jaguar

Looking to hopefully see one of the most exclusive big cats in the world? Then look no further as this Brazil holiday may be for you. Focussing on the northern Pantanal and the river Pixaim this itinerary gives you the best possible chance of seeing jaguars on a holiday to Brazil. You will spend two whole days in search of this beautiful creatures whilst also be experiencing the vast array of other wildlife the area has to offer. The itinerary also includes a visit to Rio de Janeiro, the most visually beautiful city in the world and a must for any first time visitor to Brazil.

Day 1 Rio de Janeiro

Fly to Rio de Janeiro to start your Brazil holiday where upon arrival you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. Flights to Rio from Europe generally arrive either in the early morning or late in the evening. The remainder of the day will be free for you to relax.

Day 2 Rio de Janeiro

After breakfast you will be met by your private English speaking guide and depart for Corcovado to see the most famous of all images of Rio, the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The views from the top are breathtaking and make you realise why Rio is considered by many as the most beautiful city in the world. The afternoon will be then free for you to explore independently or relax on the beach.

Day 3 Rio de Janeiro

This morning is at your leisure. Relax on one of the city’s many beaches, explore the historic centre, meander round the cobbled streets of Santa Teresa or amble around the Botanical gardens. The city has ample to keep you entertained for many a day. After a morning of exploring the historical centre perhaps treat yourself to high tea amidst the opulent elegance of the Confeitaria Colombo.

After lunch you will head off to explore Sugar Loaf Mountain. This granite rock is an iconic Rio landmark and from the top you’ll once again have the most wonderful views of the whole city, it’s beaches and a breathtaking view of Guanabara Bay. It’s a great place to watch the sun set over the city, sipping a caipirinha. The evening will then be free for you to relax.

Day 4 Cuiabá / Porto Jofre

Today you will be transferred back to the airport for a morning flight to Cuiabá in the heart of the northern Pantanal. On arrival you will be met by a private driver and taken on a safari transfer to Porto Jofre. It’s a fabulous safari along the entire Transpantaneira Park Road, with several opportunities to photograph nature and wildlife. Arrive later in the afternoon and you will enjoy dinner at the Hotel. During your time at the hotel all meals are included.

Days 5 – 6 Jaguar spotting in the Pantanal

Over the next two days you will enjoy four half-day boat trips each morning and afternoon to maximize chances of spotting jaguars. The region between the Cuiabá and Piquiri rivers hold the State Park “Encontro das Águas”, in which live a high concentration of jaguars. Most of those cats are quite used to boat traffic and people. The meeting of those rivers offer exceptionally good fishing and the influx of fishermen has enabled jaguars to be spotted more easily. The best way to meet these enigmatic creatures is by boat, cruising at low speed along the rivers border, searching in the tree shadows and empty beaches for signs of them, as well as other rare wild life as ocelots and giant river otters, among others. You will depart early in the morning, have the option to return to the Lodge for lunch and rest, and restart later in the afternoon searching until sundown.

Day 7 Porto Jofre / The Pantanal

The morning is free to explore the area and an optional boat trip looking for jaguars. Then after lunch you will drive along the Tranpantaneira toward Araras Ecolodge. Check in, have an introduction tour, enjoy dinner and spend the night at the Lodge

Days 8-9 The Pantanal

During the next two days you will enjoy a number of activities, two during the day and one at night (daily) which will include walking tours, photo safaris, night safaris and canoe trips. You will see a wide variety of wildlife and birdlife, hopefully including the elusive jaguar. All excursions are led by bilingual guides who have a deep knowledge of local nature and regional culture.

Day 10

Following a transfer to the airport in Cuiabá, today you will wave goodbye to Brazil and board a flight back to the UK after what will have been an unforgettable Brazil holiday.
